26th Tokyo Biennale

Relationship to the
theme.

We are two, and the work is made by four hands. This simple fact already holds the spirit of the 26th Tokyo Biennale: from me to us.

In our series The Twelve Virtues, each virtue begins as an inner state, ours, yours, anyone's. But when it is worked honestly, it does not stay inside. Courage opens into redemption, devotion becomes sacrifice, patience finds insight. One quality leads to a second, and that second is carried outward, toward the other and the world.

Working together, we pass the same sheet between us. What one tears, the other stitches. What one stains, the other reworks. The I dissolves into we, and the artwork becomes a meeting place.

This is how we answer the Biennale's call. A virtue, like a gesture, only fully exists when it reaches someone else.
